New Year, New You!
‘Twas the season. We ate, drank, and were merry! All that holidaying may have added a few pounds. For those of us who were already overweight, those few extra pounds can have detrimental effects on our health. You may have made the resolution to eliminate some of those pounds so you can live your healthiest, happiest, best life. It’s the time for a new year and a new you!
Will It Be the Same Old Thing?
Anyone who has struggled to maintain a healthy weight intimately knows how difficult that is. There are many factors affecting weight gain and weight loss. We may eat healthily and exercise regularly, yet the scale doesn’t move. Discouragement feeds into a vicious cycle in which we berate ourselves and, possibly, give up our weight loss journeys. Before you give up, explore all the possibilities for help in losing weight.
There are many options for support in weight loss. Some people hire a personal trainer and nutrition coach, some opt for bariatric surgery, and others seek assistance with weight loss through medication. While all of these are viable options for managing one’s weight and associated health outcomes, medical support through medication has become an increasingly successful option for weight loss and weight management. One highly effective option is semaglutide. It’s marketed under the brand names Wegovy, Ozempic, and Rybelsus. Two of them, Wegovy and Ozempic, can be taken as weekly injections while Rybelsus is taken as a daily oral medication.
Why Semaglutide?
Semaglutide offers a wide variety of benefits for its users. It’s most effective in people who are obese and have type 2 diabetes. It’s not the first choice of treatment for diabetes, but for those who qualify for it, semaglutide has been found very effective in both controlling blood sugar and assisting with weight loss. In one study,
obese people without type 2 diabetes lost 12.6% more weight than those who took the placebo while participants with type 2 diabetes lost 6.2% more weight than those who took the placebo. In other words, semaglutide provided a significant, measurable difference in weight loss.
Semaglutide has been studied repeatedly, providing consistent results throughout various studies.
What About the “Fine Print”?
The fine print is always there, isn’t it? Side effects and contraindications for use are part of any medication we take. Semaglutide may have side effects, such as:
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Possible low blood sugar
Incidents of low blood sugar are most common in those who are taking additional medications for diabetes management.
There are people who shouldn’t take semaglutide. These include people who have:
- Thyroid conditions
- A history of pancreatitis
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Certain other medications
If it’s right for you, semaglutide opens up an avenue of weight loss options that could change your life.
